Jan Lukasiewicz

(1878-1956) - known as the founder of the first non-classical logical calculus and as one of the most prominent and significative logicians of this century. He introduced a bracketless logical notation('Polish notation'), which allowed expressions to be written unambiguously without the use of brackets and developed an axiomatic treatment of Aristotelean syllogistic. His studies were to form the basis for Tarski's work. In 1946 he moved to Dublin where he remained until his death.
