Johann Lhotsky
(1795 - 1866) - writer, physician, naturalist and explorer. The first European
explorer to reach the
Benambra area (Australia) and to climb Mt Kosciusko in 1834. Lhotsky
arrived in Sydney in 1832 to carry out botanical and zoological research and
spent some time at the Hobart survey office. In 1838 he sailed for London
(where he eventually died).
